question:<br><em>Why doesn&#8217;t the FIA just change the engines?</em></p><p>That question assumes Formula 1 still works the way it used to.<br>It doesn&#8217;t.</p><p>The 2026 power units are already operating inside a standalone cost cap.<br>They&#8217;re already built, validated and integrated.<br>The timelines are fixed, the money is capped, and the room to move is far smaller than most reporting acknowledges.</p><p>Once you factor that in, the idea of a late &#8220;fix&#8221; stops being a technical discussion and starts becoming a political and governance problem.</p><p>I wrote a Just clinical, fuel-sipping, championship-winning execution from Alex Palou at Road America.</p><p>Everyone&#8217;s talking about the strategy &#8212; and fair enough. The final 15 laps were a knife-edge between overcut, fuel save, and raw pace. But what struck me wasn&#8217;t just the strategy. He didn&#8217;t force a move. He didn&#8217;t look rushed. He simply waited. And when Dixon blinked and pitted with three to go? That was that.</p><blockquote><p><em>Dixon blinked. Rosenqvist charged. Palou? Clinical.</em></p></blockquote><div><hr></div><h3>3 Things I Noticed (That Didn&#8217;t Make the Article)</h3><p><strong>1. Ganassi were playing chess, not poker.</strong><br>Dixon&#8217;s stop on Lap 38 wasn&#8217;t a gamble &#8212; it was bait. Palou ran his own race, tucked into the draft, knowing his Lap 40 stop gave him the delta. The moment Dixon peeled off, Palou hit target +1 and never looked back.</p><p><strong>2. Rosenqvist&#8217;s final lap was fastest of the race.</strong><br>The No. 60 had pace. He just got boxed into a fuel window. When he was finally unleashed, he took 0.4 seconds out of Palou &#8212; <em>on Lap 55</em>. Imagine what he could&#8217;ve done with two more.</p><p><strong>3. Kirkwood is starting to feel inevitable.</strong><br>The streak's not just about podiums. He finished P4 with a less-than-ideal strategy, stayed out of trouble, and kept the title fight just barely alive.
